• In December 2019, at Disney World’s newly remodeled Riviera Resort, a sleeping family woke to find a Murphy bed had fallen from the wall trapping their mother beneath it. The family members were able to lift the bed off the woman, and she sustained only minor injuries including bumps and scrapes. An analysis showed that the Murphy bed was not properly installed leading it to tip over.
• A 76-year-old woman asleep in a Murphy bed in the early morning when the frame pulled away from the wall, collapsed on her, and locked in the closed position, killing her.

In 2018, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled a Murphy bed hardware kit because the hardware was not sufficient to secure the bed to the wall which posed a tip-over and entrapment risk.
