San Diego has approximately 90 of the nearly 1,200 nursing homes in the State of California. There are also over 650 licensed residential care facilities (aka assisted living facilities) in San Diego County, most of those located in the cities of San Diego, La Mesa, Chula Vista, Escondido, El Cajon, Poway, and Oceanside. While most of these facilities have the capacity to provide high quality care, too often residents fall through the cracks because of a failure to follow the designated care plan, untrained staff, or a lack of basic competencies on behalf of the caretakers in charge.
